The people you talk to build it
PretzelPort is a focused, lean consultancy. We learn the domain, build the whole of it, and stay until people are actually using it — without the work changing hands along the way.
Two backgrounds, and the gap between them
Years of building data platforms inside some of the world's largest pharmaceutical, chemical and research organizations, combined with product experience from the startup world. That combination is the company. We know how large regulated organizations actually work — how decisions get made, what IT will and will not approve, why a sensible plan takes two quarters — and we know how to build software people adopt.
Those two things rarely sit in the same team, and the gap between them is where internal platforms go to die.
Large organizations have deep domain expertise and struggle to turn it into working software. That is not a technology problem. Building a product — user focus, iteration, adoption — is a different discipline from running research or running IT, and it is nobody's day job in most of these organizations.
So the platform gets built to a specification rather than to a user, ships, and is quietly not used. If you have already tried this internally, none of that is news to you. It is exactly where we work.
We build products, not tooling.
We learn the business well enough to decide what should be built, build the whole of it, and stay until people actually use it. Adoption is the metric — software nobody uses is cost, not progress.
Five positions we do not negotiate
- We build, we do not just advise. The deliverable is working software, not a slide deck.
- Adoption is the metric. Success means people use what we built — not hours billed.
- No layers, no handoffs. You talk directly to the people doing the work, and it does not change hands partway through.
- Compliance is an architecture decision, not a phase at the end.
- The first version is small, real, and in front of users in weeks — not a platform vision with an eighteen-month runway.
